That would be a brood of spider hatchlings on the toy drawers in the girls bedroom. We managed to get some close up shots before we left.
They were still there when we came home this evening, althought they'd been busy and had built themselves a web to live on.
The plan was that tomorrow we would see if we could identify them and also learn a bit about spider life cycles before finding them somewhere outside to live. That was, until someone pointed them out to Podd and he scooped them all up in some tissue and flushed them. Cue three very upset sprogits. Shame. That's the only bit of today that's actually gone well.
Am editing this on 5-2-13 to add:
While playing today Little Clanger brought me a Little People tree swing and said "uh, what is this?!"
So we talked about how the egg bundle came to be there (when the tree was left outside for a while!), and then I very carefully removed it onto a plate (complete with a lone survivor - must have been a late hatcher) ...
... and we dissected it to see the egg casings and the spiderlings first moult :)
Then we put him outside.
